In-land water areas, such as natural dams, lakes and watersheds and other wetlands along the coast, such as mangroves, are disappearing, and fast.
Wetlands contribute approximately $47.4 trillion annually to human health, happiness, and security. Peatlands provide goods and services, such as food security and protection against water-related disasters, such as droughts and floods. This year’s celebration of World Wetlands Day highlights the urgent need to prioritize wetland restoration.
The G20 Global Land Initiative Coordination Office will hold a global webinar titled, It’s time for wetlands restoration, about wetlands ecosystems preservation and restoration.
The webinar is organised in partnership with the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands, United Nations (UN) Decade for Ecosystem Restoration, UN Environment Programme, National Center for Vegetation Cover and Combatting Desertification of Saudi Arabia, among others.
